Orchard & Farmstand
News:
Bryce & Campbell have
returned to Jamaica after caring for our crops.
We are updating their residence while they are
away.
Jesse completed the brick oven and became “ The
baker of Sweden”. His apple raisin and
apple bread sold out every week, along with rye
boules and delicious pizza. He made applesauce
and apple butter in the oven and even had a
couple of “how to” impromptu workshops..
Paul, Shawn and Margaret joined Bryce & Campbell
in keeping the strawberries picked, boxed and
ready for sale.
Margaret’s prized peaches were happily devoured
by the peach enthusiasts. We even had a decent
crop of Asian Pears. Alas, the turkeys ate the
blueberries.
Scott Miller, the apple doc, was a busy guy
watching over the fruits of his labors while
moving and going to Italy twice. He did manage
to keep all the balls in the air.
Dan Cousins, a nephew of the owners, came to the
area for the summer and worked at the orchard.
He has a degree in Botany from the University Of
Texas and is now a “manager in training”.
Bonnie and Lori, made the apple cider donuts
along with baked treats.. After two years of
experience, we are going to remodel the
farmstand, built in 2009 to make it more
efficient and to accommodate our multi fruit
crop.
We celebrated Maine Apple Sunday, The Fryeburg
Fair and Columbus Day. We toted apple pickers
around on the hay wagon and the flatbed trailer.
They enjoyed the outdoor picnic table area and
of course our spectacular scenery, contributing
to a successful pick your own season.
The cider crew, Scott, Paul & Shawn have
produced a delicious brew that has sweetened
with each pressing. The cider room will also see
a bit of a makeover for 2012.
Alas the sunflower crop circles were destroyed
by our fall hurricane. They did twist and turns
their heads in all sorts of curves and still
managed to contribute to our beautiful orchard.
Thanks to all who came to visit, we look forward
to seeing you in June, 2012, when we hope to
open with strawberry pick your own.
